Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, who is in Kazakhstan on a state visit.

The solemn ceremony of welcoming the Chinese leader took place at the Akorda presidential palace. The Head of the Guard of Honor gave a report to the two leaders, and the national anthems of both countries were playev.

Then President Tokayev and President Xi held a meeting in an expanded format.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Xi Jinping for accepting the invitation and visiting Kazakhstan.

“This is your first trip abroad after the pandemic. Therefore, this visit has historical significance. I consider this as an evidence of a high level of mutual trust and cooperation. As you know, I attended the opening ceremony of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games, and I warmly reminisce our meeting in Beijing at that time,” the Head of State said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recalled that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and China.

“It is symbolic that your visit coincided with this anniversary milestone. During this short period, we have established strong interstate relationship. I sincerely thank you for supporting the economic development of Kazakhstan and our international initiatives,” the President said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that the eternal comprehensive strategic partnership announced during his state visit to Beijing in September 2019 has reached the set trajectory. The Joint Statement adopted today opens a new “golden 30th anniversary” of bilateral relations, the Kazakh President believes. It is for this reason that he calls the visit of the Chinese President extremely important.

In turn, the Chinese leader said that he was glad to visit Kazakhstan again, and expressed gratitude to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the invitation to make a state visit and the hospitality of the Kazakh people.

President Xi Jinping highly appreciated the level of Kazakh-Chinese relations and expressed confidence that this visit will give a new impetus to its further strengthening. He stressed that China supports Kazakhstan’s position on regional and international issues.

“Without any doubt, under your leadership, the people of Kazakhstan will achieve new successes in state-building and national revival. I would like to assure you once again that the Chinese Government pays great attention to relations with Kazakhstan. No matter how the international situation changes, we will continue our strong support to Kazakhstan in protecting its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as firm support to the reforms you are carrying out to ensure stability and development, and strongly oppose to the interference of any forces in the internal affairs of your country. China has been and remains a trusted friend and reliable partner of Kazakhstan. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Kazakh-Chinese cooperation, having adequately passed the tests of strength, is constantly being filled with new content, developing upward and yielding solid fruits. Our countries have become the forefront of cooperation in a number of areas. We were among the first to settle border issues, turning the 1,780-kilometer-long common border into a bond of friendship between our peoples. We were among the first to have developed international cooperation in the field of industrialization, setting an example of cooperation within the “One Belt, One Road” program. We have elevated bilateral relations to the level of eternal comprehensive strategic partnership, which has no parallel in Chinese diplomacy, having achieved its breakthrough development. Nowadays, Kazakh-Chinese relations have reached a new historical start,” President Xi Jinping stated.

During the talks, the parties discussed the prospects for enhancing cooperation in the transport, logistics and agro-industrial areas, as well as touched upon the issues of use of transboundary water resources.

Following the meeting, President Tokayev and President Xi signed a Joint Statement on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People’s Republic of China.
